In week 5 of our technology class, I gained insights into Legalities, Safety, and Digital Citizenship, which proved to be a new and eye-opening experience. The discussions on FOIPPA, student data considerations, safety plans, and waiver non-coverage highlighted the importance of privacy, responsible data handling, and protecting students online. This newfound knowledge has empowered me to create a safe and privacy-conscious digital learning environment that respects students’ rights and well-being.

Moreover, I now understand the complexities associated with student data and online work, leading me to be more cautious about the risks related to identifiability and data storage. Seeking explicit informed consent from legal guardians before sharing student work online has become a priority, and I am vigilant about safeguarding their personal information. The safety and protection plans we covered emphasized the need for clear protocols to prevent and address e-safety incidents, with effective communication to guardians and prompt action in case of concerns. With this enhanced understanding, I am committed to upholding legal compliance, prioritizing student safety, and nurturing a responsible digital citizenship culture both inside and outside my classroom.
